I’m often asked when is the best time to have a maternity shoot and am happy to say there is no single “perfect” time – only the time that feels right for you. Every pregnancy is unique, and so too is the way we choose to honour and celebrate it. Unlike some maternity photographers, I don’t have rigid rules about when to schedule your session. What matters most is that you feel comfortable, beautiful, and ready to embrace this fleeting chapter of your life.
That being said, you may find that your bump is most defined between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy (or 24 to 28 weeks if you are expecting twins or multiples). This is often a sweet spot where your belly has that wonderful roundness, yet you still have enough energy to enjoy the experience. After this point, you may start to feel a little more tired, and moving around for photos might not be quite as easy. Babies, of course, have their own timelines, and with most arriving between 37 and 41 weeks, I always encourage mothers to plan their session with this in mind.
But pregnancy is unpredictable, and life is busy. If you are nearing the end of your journey and haven’t yet booked your session, please don’t feel it’s too late. I sometimes have last-minute availability, and I would love to capture these final days before your little one arrives.

For 15 years, I have had the privilege of telling the stories of women in this sacred season of their lives. I know how quickly these months pass, how the gentle flutters turn into strong kicks, and how the anticipation builds as you prepare to meet your baby. It is such a powerful and tender time, one that deserves to be cherished, held onto, and remembered with warmth and love. Whether you choose to capture your pregnancy in the early weeks or wait until the very end, the most important thing is that it feels right for you. Whenever that may be, I would be honoured to document it.
