As a local Kew family photographer, I’ve spent countless days exploring the beauty of Kew Gardens with my own children, so it’s always a joy to return for family photo shoots. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing a lovely summer session for a family of three, featuring their beautiful baby girl. It happened to be one of the hottest days of the year, but we made the most of the gorgeous weather by seeking out the cool shade in some of Kew Garden’s most iconic spots.
We began the session in the stunning rose garden, where the blooms provided the perfect backdrop, and then wandered beneath the towering trees and through the soft, long grasses that offered a natural sanctuary from the heat. One of my favourite moments was photographing the family near the Lily House, where the dappled light and tranquil setting created a calm, serene atmosphere. Despite the hot day, the family’s playful energy and the baby girl’s sweet curiosity made for a beautiful, relaxed shoot. Kew Gardens never disappoints, and the combination of the garden’s natural beauty and this family’s connection made for an unforgettable day.
This family got in touch with me because they wanted to capture this special moment in time for their 8 month old baby girl. There was no significant occasion or milestone, just a deep desire to have some delightful memories that they could look back on and treasure for years to come.
This age is really wonderful for a baby photoshoot because your little one can sit unaided and their unique personalities have emerged and are in full bloom.
Not all of my clients want to do at-home photo sessions, in which case we usually choose a meaningful outdoor location in or around London.
I always encourage my clients to choose locations that hold special meaning, so when we were chatting about possible locations for their Baby photo shoot, we knew it had to be at Kew Gardens. They love spending time at Kew Gardens exploring the botanical collections with their little one and often go for an afternoon picnic or a grand adventure through the beautiful gardens.
It was extremely hot that day, but luckily there were a few shady pockets where we could escape the heat, frolic in some long squishy grasses and marvel at all the gorgeous flowers and foliage.
Kew Gardens is an ideal location for family photo shoots, regardless of the season, but if you would like some gorgeous pictures in the rose garden, then the best time to schedule a shoot would be in May / early June.
